Sierra Cross Country2

A good 6 inches fell in Tahoe Donner in Truckee overnight and the trails are packed with heavy wet snow. I ran into Euer Valley this morning and up a single track trail. I had to work hard to pick up my feet. The Firewalker trail off Sundance was tough -- breaking trail through the snow. A few more storms like this and they can get the groomers out!
Cooler temperatures. Shorter days. It's time to think about skiing. Training centers are starting to post their clinics for the cross country ski season, and Far West Nordic has posted the race schedule, so it's time to get in shape. I'll be posting events and clinics as they come up, so stay tuned. Next week, on Wednesday, Oct. 3, the Tahoe Center for Health and Sports Performance in Truckee is hosting a "Train Smarter, Ski Faster" lecture in understanding the physiology behind training in heart rate zones. It will be presented by exercise physiologist Colleen Conners-Pace, and run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Call530-587-3769 for details or directions.
